Marshall, Mo. (March 11, 2010) - The Missouri Valley tennis team organized a hotdog eating contest to raise money for Haiti after a devastating 7.0 earthquake hit the country leaving an estimated 300,000 injured, 1,000,000 homeless and over 217,000 dead .

   

Nineteen participants raised a $50 entry fee with the help of teammates, co-workers, and campus organizations. The event raised $1,101.82, all of which will go to the American Red Cross for relief efforts in Haiti.

"It was for a good cause so I really enjoyed doing it," said Women's Hotdog Eating Champion Venus Barron. When asked how she felt after devouring seven hotdogs she responded, "I could eat some more."

Buddy "Maddog" Mayfield won the Faculty/ Staff division eating a total of six hotdogs in five minutes. Venus "Little Kobayashi" Barron took first in the Women's Division and "The Silent Food Assassin" Cooper Trumbo won the Men's Division and was the overall champ with a total of 12 hotdogs.
