CANTON, Mo. - Seth Minter has been named the next head women's basketball coach at Culver-Stockton College, Wildcat athletic director Joel Dant announced today.

Minter, a 2006 graduate of Culver-Stockton, spent the last three years as the head girls coach at Canton High School, which included two trips to the Missouri Class 2 Girls State Basketball Tournament where they finished second in 2009 and fourth in 2010. He compiled a 77-13 overall record at Canton, an .856 winning percentage that is the best in the program's history, and his teams were ranked in the Missouri Coaches Top 10 poll each year, achieving the top ranking in the state during the 2008-09 season.

"Being a graduate of the college, I felt this was a great opportunity for me to give back to the college that has given me so much," said Minter. "After coaching the previous three years at the high school level, I felt that my understanding of the game and knowledge of this college and area suits me for the college program. I look forward to working with our team and getting things started."

During his tenure at Canton, Minter oversaw a program that set school records for victories in a season (29) in 2008-09, points per game (67.4), points allowed (38.6), assists per game (17.3) and field goal percentage (54%).

Minter has coached six all-state players, eight all-district selections, four 1,000-point scorers, one 2,000-point scorer, and one 1,000-rebounder. He has twice been named District Coach of the Year, and was runner-up for the Robert Fairchild Coach of the Year in the State of Missouri in 2009. He was also named KHQA TV 7 and KRES radio Coach of the Year in 2009.

"We felt Seth's knowledge of the area and being an alum of C-SC will help us re-build the tradition of our women's program very quickly," said Dant. "He already has strategically planned ways to attract local athletes to campus and we feel he will have the support of the campus and the community."

"Seth is a proven winner who has a remarkable passion for the game," said Richard Valentine, President at Culver-Stockton. "He is committed to the development of his players away from the court as well as their improvement on it, which fits the College's belief that our athletic program plays a role in educating students for meaningful personal and professional lives. His enthusiasm is contagious, and we're thrilled that Seth is going to lead our women's basketball program."

Minter graduated from Culver-Stockton in 2006 with a bachelor's degree in physical education/health, and he is candidate for a master's degree in education from William Woods University in 2010.

While a student at C-SC, Minter was a four-year letterwinner on the baseball team where he holds the school record for strikeouts in a career with 201. He is second all-time in victories with 20, and he is third all-time with 226.1 innings pitched. He was named to the all-conference team twice, including a first-team selection in 2005, and was an All-Region V selection in 2005.
