MOBILE, Ala. - The 30th Annual NAIA
Women's Tennis National Championship is set to begin at 9:00 a.m. CDT, on
Tuesday, May 18, at the Mobile Tennis Center in Mobile, Ala. The championship
will run over five days from May 18 - 22 and is hosted by the Mobile Tennis
Center, Spring Hill College (Ala.) and the University of Mobile
(Ala.).
Six-time defending National Champion Auburn Montgomery (Ala.)
makes its 11th -consecutive appearance in the championship, since the
team format began in 2000. The Lady Senators are the No. 1-seed and will play
the winner of the first round match between Xavier (La.) and Indiana
Wesleyan.
Auburn Montgomery leads the tournament field with 10 national
championships. Brenau (Ga.) is second with two, while Mobile and Northwood
(Fla.) have one championship each.
Appalachian Athletic Conference
Tournament Champion Tennessee Wesleyan is making its first appearance in the
Championship. The Lady Bulldogs will face the Savannah College of Art &
Design in the first round.
Auburn Montgomery, Azusa Pacific (Calif.),
Indiana Wesleyan, Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) and Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.)
have all made 11 consecutive appearances at the national championship.
The Golden State Athletic Conference leads all conferences with five
schools in the championship field: No. 7-seed Azusa Pacific, No. 4-seed
Concordia (Calif.), No. 2-seed Fresno Pacific (Calif.), No. 3-seed Point Loma
Nazarene and No. 5-seed Vanguard (Calif.). All five squads received first round
byes.
