Asberry will
receive a $500 scholarship and be recognized at the NATA National
Convention
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -
Jennifer Asberry, an
athletic training student at Missouri Valley College (MVC), was chosen by the
National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Athletic Trainers
Association Scholarship and Awards Committee as the recipient of the 2010 Al
Ortolani Athletic Training Undergraduate Scholarship. Asberry, who will be a
senior this fall, will receive a $500 scholarship to be used towards her
education in athletic training.
Asberry, who exhibits tremendous campus
involvement while maintaining high academic standards, serves as vice president
of the MVC Athletic Training Student Organization, is a member of the Missouri
Athletic Trainers' Association Student Leadership Council and sits on the NAIA's
National Athletic Training Students' Committee. Asberry attended the 2009 MoATA
Capital Hill day and is the coauthor of a NATA abstract that was presented at
the NATA District V symposium and will be presented later this month at the NATA
National Convention. In addition to her course work and training she is a member
of the Missouri Valley College Track and Field team and has made the Dean's list
each semester of her college experience.
"Jennifer is exceptionally
understanding and a patient young lady whose knowledge makes her extremely
beneficial in all aspects of athletic training," Matthew C. Rowlett, head
athletic trainer and assistant professor of health sciences at Missouri Valley
College said, adding that "she can pinpoint evaluations, start-up rehabilitation
protocols, and assist our athletes in return to participation activities."
Earlier this year, Asberry was named the recipient of the Valley Women
Scholarship and was selected for the National Athletic Training Student
Leadership Workshop. Asberry's involvement in these professional organizations
and the MVC's athletic training program has helped her establish leadership
skills, a better understanding of the athletic training profession and career
opportunities.
Asberry will be recognized on June 24, at the NAIA-ATA
business meeting held in conjunction with the NATA National Convention in
Philadelphia, Pa. To learn more visit www.NAIA.org.
