Bronson
Brassel, a standout tennis player for Cornell College (Iowa) will be joining
the William Jewell Cardinals men's tennis team as a transfer this fall.
Bronson, a native of Topeka, Kan., attended Washburn Rural High School.
At Rural he was one of the top tennis players in the state of Kansas. He
was a four-time state qualifier and finished fourth in the state in doubles as
a sophomore and finished fifth in the state as a senior in 2009. He
was a four-time All-City, All-Region and All-League member and a two-time
All-State member. Off the court, Brassel was also a two-time member of
the Academic All-State team.
At Cornell Brassel competed at the number one singles slot as a first-year
player and finished the season with a 16-11 record which led the Rams and tied
for second place on the single-season list for Cornell. He also competed
at the number one doubles position and finished 16-7. Combined with his singles
wins, his 33 total wins are the fourth-most in a season for Cornell.
"Bronson
is an outstanding addition to our program," said Head Coach Paul Worstell. "I
believe with the addition of Bronson we have one of the most solid recruiting
classes in my five years here at Jewell. I am really looking for our men's team
to continue building on the successes we have had over the past two seasons."
The Cardinals will begin the fall season against soon-to-be conference rival
Rockhurst University September 1 at 4 p.m. on the Rockhurst campus in Kansas
City, Mo.
