"The game is quickly approaching and we are expecting a great crowd," said
event founder Jason Dannelly. "Both schools have been doing a lot behind
the scenes in order to make sure this is a fantastic event. Fans should
be pleased with the atmosphere at the game. They just need to make sure
they get great seats!"
Kickoff of the 2010 game is set for 6:00 p.m. Central at People's Bank Field
on the campus of Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kan. This will mark the
first time in 17 years that the two rivals have been able to battle on the
gridiron. Baker University and Ottawa University are separated by less
than 20 miles. Due to conference rules and game limitations the two have not
been able to schedule one another until this year.
Baker
University (based in Baldwin City, KS) owns a 43-31-2 advantage in the all-time
series with Ottawa University, including a 10-game winning streak dating back
to 1976. The last time the two teams faced off was in the first game of the
1993 season, with the Wildcats handing the Braves a 43-9 loss on Ottawa's home
field.
2010 will mark the fourth season of the Victory Sports Network First Down
Classic and the first appearance for Baker. Ottawa will make their second
appearance as they participated in the second game of the 2009 Victory Sports
Network First Down Classic, defeating McKendree University (Ill.) 31-21. Avila
University (Mo.) defeated Doane College (Neb.) in the first game of the 2009
Victory Sports Network First Down Classic 9-6. In 2008, Doane College defeated
William Jewell (Mo.) 15-12 and in 2007 MidAmerica Nazarene defeated Azusa
Pacific 59-38 in the inaugural Victory Sports Network First Down Classic.
