CANTON, Mo. — Culver-Stockton College today accepted the resignations of women’s basketball coach Dan Chapla and men’s basketball coach Brad Hoyt.

“Dan Chapla and Brad Hoyt have been an integral part of the Culver-Stockton athletic department during their tenures here,” said Culver-Stockton athletic director Rod Walton. “In their role as head coach or as an educator in the classroom, Dan and Brad have always given their utmost in the interest of Culver-Stockton students and athletes. They will both be missed.”

Chapla ends a six-year run as the Lady Wildcats’ head coach, which saw him compile a 76-110 overall record, including a 44-76 mark in conference play, in his first head coaching position. The 76 victories are the third-most in school history, behind Kathy Turpin (200) and Carrie Lynn Mahon (119).

“I want to thank Culver-Stockton College for giving me the opportunity to be a head college basketball coach,” said Chapla. “I have had the opportunity to grow both professionally and personally in my six years here and I have also been fortunate enough to develop relationships with some great young people who have helped influence my life.  I wish nothing but the best for the women's basketball program and for the college.”

Chapla’s teams produced 10 all-conference players, including a freshman and newcomer of the year, 12 NAIA scholar-athletes and two CoSIDA Academic All-District recognitions. His teams qualified for the Heart of America Athletic Conference Tournament five times, reaching the semifinals in 2004-05. In addition, his teams were ranked third or higher in the HAAC in scoring defense three times, and ranked third or higher in defensive field goal percentage on five different occasions, including leading the league in that category in 2003-04.

Meanwhile, Hoyt concludes a three-year stint with the men’s program that saw him compile a 27-62 overall record, including a 16-44 mark in conference play. The Wildcats were 8-21 last season.

“I would like to thank Dr. Fox, Dr. Dieker, and Mr. Walton on the opportunity that was presented to me three years ago,” said Hoyt. “It has been a challenging, rewarding experience – both as a faculty member and basketball coach.

“I am extremely proud of the young men that have represented our program and the successes that we have shared. The timing is right for me to go in a different direction and for the basketball program to go in a different direction. I wish nothing but the best for Culver-Stockton.”

Hoyt’s teams produced four all-conference players, including the league’s leading scorer, Dane Brooks, in 2006-07, and one NAIA scholar-athlete. His teams also were good defensively, ranking in the top five in field goal percentage defense twice and scoring defense once.

Walton said a national search will begin immediately and will last “however long it takes to find the best possible candidates for each job.”
