KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Avila guard Victoria Murillo and Graceland forward Florida Siaosi headlined a group of Heart of America Athletic Conference women's basketball players who were named to the 2011-12 NAIA Division I Women's Basketball All-America Teams.
The pair of seniors were each named to the third team after leading their teams deep into the postseason. Murillo helped the Eagles earn the first win by a HAAC team at the NAIA Division I Women's Basketball National Championship by knocking off top-seeded Freed-Hardeman, 84-82, in double overtime. Siaosi, the HAAC Player of the Year, guided the Yellowjackets to the championship game of the HAAC Tournament that included an upset win at Avila in the semifinal round.
Aneshia Starks of Culver-Stockton, Kara Blankenship of Evangel and Daria Sprew of MidAmerica Nazarene were each named to the honorable mention list. Starks, the HAAC Newcomer of the Year, led the conference in scoring at 18.5 points per game and a berth in the HAAC Tournament. Blankenship finished her Evangel career with 1,574 points after averaging 14.7 points this season. Sprew, who was chosen the HAAC Freshman of the Year, helped the Pioneers to the HAAC regular season and conference tournament crowns after averaging 11.4 points and 6.5 rebounds per game.
