
LAMONI, Iowa - Baker ended a 12-year title drought on Saturday afternoon as the Wildcats won the team crown at the 2012 Heart of America Athletic Conference Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Graceland University. Complete Results
Baker pulled away from runner-up Central Methodist, stretching a five-point lead after the first day to a 110-point victory. The Wildcats amassed 298 points while the Eagles tallied 188.5 for second place. Benedictine scored 119 points to claim third place with Graceland (97) and Missouri Valley (76.5) rounding out the top five.
Rebeca Barajas of Central Methodist claimed both of the individual awards on the women's side as she was the high point scorer and was chosen the Most Valuable Athlete of the Meet. The 2011 NAIA all-American earned a pair of first place finishes in the high jump (1.60m) and the triple jump (11.30m) to go along with a 6th-place finish in the 100 hurdles, 4x100 relay and 4x400 relay.
Tyler Sloan captured three events for the conference champions as she won both the 100m and 400m hurdles to go along with the 100m. She also anchored the victorious 4x100m relay team as well as the 4x400 relay team that took runner-up honors. Hannah Moore was victorious in the 400m while Lauren Jaqua had a pair of second place finishes (1500m, 5000m) while running the lead leg for the victorious 4x800 relay team.
Those athletes who have met the qualifying standard in their respective event(s) will take part in the 32nd Annual NAIA Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which will be held May 24-26 at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Ind.
