Georgetown, Guyana - Current Graceland University men's soccer midfielder Brandon Beresford has been selected to participate on the Guyanese National soccer squad, in its upcoming Word Cup qualifying match.

Despite being a native of Jonesboro, Ga., Beresford is of Guyanese decent and holds a dual citizenship, allowing him to be selected to the national team.

Beresford will make his latest appearance on the international stage when the Golden Jaguars take the pitch in historic Estadio Azteca (Aztec Stadium) in Mexico City on June 8. The match is slated to begin at 7:00 p.m.

Beresford has already found the back of the net once for Guyana when the Golden Jaguars defeated French Guiana in 2010, a 2-0 victory.

"Brandon is a very talented player and I am not surprised he has gotten this opportunity to represent his country in the World Cup qualifiers," said head men's soccer coach Guillermo Sanchez.

"However, his hard work is what will determine his future in the soccer world. He struggled his freshman year with grades, but has improved and, most recently, significantly improved his GPA.

"I know he has what it takes to succeed now is just a matter of dedication and consistency."

Beresford earned a total of seven points last season. His breakout performance came against Culver-Stockton College when he netted two goals in a 6-0 victory on October 12, 2011.
