Beresford has already found the back of the net once for Guyana when the Golden Jaguars defeated French Guiana in 2010, a 2-0 victory.
"Brandon is a very talented player and I am not surprised he has gotten this opportunity to represent his country in the World Cup qualifiers," said head men's soccer coach Guillermo Sanchez.
"However, his hard work is what will determine his future in the soccer world. He struggled his freshman year with grades, but has improved and, most recently, significantly improved his GPA.
"I know he has what it takes to succeed now is just a matter of dedication and consistency."
Beresford earned a total of seven points last season. His breakout performance came against Culver-Stockton College when he netted two goals in a 6-0 victory on October 12, 2011.
