KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Baker and Graceland retained their places among the NAIA elite when the 2012 NAIA Women's Soccer Coaches' Preseason Top 25 Poll was released on Tuesday afternoon.
Baker remained ranked #6 after holding that spot in last season's postseason rankings following the HAAC regular season and tournament titles as well as a quarterfinal round appearance in the NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship. The Wildcats, who posted a 15-3-2 mark last season, bring back a pair of all-conference players in Shelby Schiraldi and all-American Jordan Dolbin.
Graceland also held its spot from last season, sharing the #16 spot in the preseason rankings with Trinity Christian (Ill.) after finishing 2011 with a record of 10-7-4. The Yellowjackets also advanced to the NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship following an upset win over Concordia (Calif.) before falling to Mobile (Ala.) in the round of 16.
Defending national champion Lee (Tenn.) received all 20 first place votes to sit atop the poll while runner-up Concordia (Ore.) claimed the #2 place. Lindsey Wilson (Ky.), Embry-Riddle (Fla.) and Mobile rounded out the top five.
