The Lindenwood women’s soccer team has been busy on another soccer field away from NAIA play this year. The Lady Lions have been volunteering their time with the Special Needs Soccer Association (SPENSA).

SPENSA is a non-for-profit, St. Louis-based soccer program for young people with disabilities. The program is open free of charge to any boy or girl with a disability from the ages of 5-21.

The program is designed to bring the excitement and fun of playing soccer to players who traditionally have not had a place in the youth soccer system.

During the games, the volunteers are buddies to the participants. As buddies, they are mostly there to support and encourage their players. The Lindenwood soccer athletes also help and give advice when needed.

The women’s soccer team assisted with the program last Saturday, and will continue to do so for the next two weeks.
