Nov. 8, 2008- For the second straight season, the Lindenwood men's cross country team won the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) Championship.
The Lions easily ran to the title on Saturday with their top five runners crossing the finish line among the first eight finishers at the conference meet in St. Charles, Mo. The title was the sixth overall conference championship for the Lindenwood men's cross country program.
Lindenwood finished with 22 points, 65 less than the runner-up team in Central Methodist. MidAmerica Nazarene was third after its 91 points was four more than the Eagles. Other team scores were Baker with 115, Evangel with 139, Benedictine with 156, Missouri Valley with 160, Graceland with 187, Culver-Stockton with 217 and William Jewell with 272.
The Lions' Ivaylo Ignatov won the individual crown after finishing the race in 24:44. He finished eight seconds ahead of his teammate, Chris Sandefur. Nicholas Yegon finished fifth overall with a time of 25:24, and the Lions' Julius Kiptoo was sixth at 25:34. The final Lion to score was Brian Soule who came in eighth with a time of 25:49.
Other all-conference performers were Neil Grundman (Graceland), Simion Tooh (MidAmerica Nazarene), Arnold Sirorei (Baker), Maxwell Schuman (Evangel), Jeb Flynn (MidAmerica Nazarene), Mike Hernandez (Central Methodist), Chris Lanhum (Culver-Stockton), Josphat Sawe (Central Methodist), Willy Kessio (MidAmerica Nazarene), and Nicholas Hestand (Evangel).
With the victory, Lindenwood receives the HAAC's automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship on Nov. 22 in Kenosha, Wis.
