Nov. 8, 2008- The 2008 HAAC Women's Cross Country Championship came down to Lindenwood and MidAmerica Nazarene. The two teams were tied through their first four runners, but the number five runner helped the Lady Lions win the conference title.
The conference championship was the first for Lindenwood since 2004 and its sixth overall crown.
Lindenwood finished with 36 points, 10 more than runner-up MidAmerica Nazarene. Other team scores were Central Methodist with 88, Benedictine with 109, Graceland with 131, Baker with 135, Evangel with 165, and William Jewell with 234.
Lindenwood's Francine Nzilampa crossed the finish line first with a mark of 17:43.57. Four other Lady Lions joined her on the all-conference team by finishing in the Top 15. Yasmina Elkasmi finished in the bronze spot with a time of 18:33. Spencer Tobler was eighth with a mark of 19:19, Lauren Hoffman was tenth with a time of 19:25, and Annabelle Delarue was 15th with a 19:44 time.
MidAmerica Nazarene had four runners earn all-conference. Irene Mitei was the individual runner with a time of 18:28. Vanessa Weltmer and Michelle Phillips finished fourth and fifh, respectively, with times of 18:40 and 18:56. Linah Cheelagat was 11th with a mark of 19:28.
Other all-conference runners included Lizy Boit (Central Methodist), Kristen Ostrem (Evangel), Elizabeth Schmitz (Benedictine), Elizabeth Zaragoza (Central Methodist), Taylor Whitacre (Missouri Valley), and Amanda Batey (Graceland).
With the victory, Lindenwood receives the HAAC's automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship on Nov. 22 in Kenosha, Wis.
