Mike Torie is one of two Lindenwood athletes that will represent the United States at the World University Games.
Two Lindenwood track and field All-Americans, Lisa Hughes and Mike Torie, will compete for the United States at the upcoming World University Games.
   

The 25th Summer Universiade is taking place in Belgrade, Serbia from July 1-12, with the track and field competition starting on July 6. Approximately 9,000 athletes from 140 countries will compete in 15 sports that are the core of university and academic sports.

Hughes and Torie both reached qualifying marks for the competition at the recent NAIA Outdoor National Championships in Edwardsville, Ill.

Hughes finished fourth in the women's shot put with a new school record mark of 45'2.5". She also finished 12th in the discus with a mark of 138'7" and will compete in both events at the World University Games.

Torie earned All-American honors in the men's discus with a third-place finish after a throw of 180'8". That mark was a personal best for him and the second-best mark in Lindenwood history.
