The William Jewell College women's doubles team of junior Nikki Chambers (Moses Lake, Wash.) and sophomore Tanya Ratana (Coppell, Texas) has won the Small College Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Regional Championships.

The three-day tournament was held September 25-27 at The Plaza Tennis Center in Kansas City, Mo.  Chambers and Ratana defeated Carolina Verdezoto and Valeria Avina from Graceland University 8-3 in the finals.  Chambers and Ratana were the number-one seeds of the tournament. The win sends the Jewell doubles duo to National Competition October 14-17 in Mobile, Ala.  This marks the third consecutive year Chambers has qualified in doubles and the second consecutive year for Ratana.

"Nikki and Tanya have really developed into an outstanding doubles team" said head coach Paul Worstell.   "They both worked so hard over the last few days and I am very proud of them along with our whole team.  We are really looking forward to playing in the National Tournament in a couple of weeks."

Next up for the Cardinal tennis team is a date with Baker University on Friday, October 2, in Baldwin City, Kan.
