MOBILE, Ala. - Missouri Valley College sophomore Elanqua Griffin overcame losses in the opening round and the consolation semifinal round of the International Tennis Association's National Small College Championships to earn the highest finish in Missouri Valley College history as she garnered seventh-place in straight sets Saturday at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center.
After losing to Fresno Pacific (Calif.) University's Katia Sabate in two sets (6-1, 6-0) on Friday, Griffin played Trina Slapeka of Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) College and loss in straight sets 6-0, 6-0.
Griffin bounced back and cruised in both sets against Marian (Ind.) College's Paola Usina, taking the first set 6-1 and the second 6-4.
The ITA Small College Championships presented by the United States Tennis Association featured eight region winners from each division, NAIA, NCAA Division II and III and the National Junior College Athletic Association.
