The No. 10 Raven men's soccer team punched their ticket to Fresno, Calif., and the 2009 NAIA Men's Soccer National Tournament Saturday with a win over No. 22 Ashford University.

It took extra time but in the end, the Ravens earned a 1-0 win over the Saints and advance to the National Tournament starting on Nov. 30 in Fresno.

The Ravens held a slight edge in shots after the first half at 6-5 but then played to a 4-4 shot draw with the Saints in the second half.

Benedictine needed just two shots in the overtime, one of which found the back of the net during the 95th minute of play. Sean Lewis (Sr., Ballwin, Mo.) converted a pass from Jaymee Highcock (Soph., Fareham, England) and Brendan Copeland (Fr., Overland Park) to give the Ravens the win.

The goal by Lewis was high eighth game-winning goal of the season. Heading to Fresno, Lewis is tied for the NAIA lead in game-winning goals with Jeo Pantajo from Aquinas College.

Keeper Tanner Fox (Fr., Olathe) played the entire match in goal for Benedictine and finished with two saves. Ashford finished with just two shots on goal as they hit six shots off target and one shot off the post.

The Ravens will take on No. 7 Notre Dame (Ohio) in the second round of the National Tournament as Notre Dame eliminated Olivet Nazarene University 2-1.

The match between Benedictine and Notre Dame will be played at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1 at Ramirez Field in Fresno.
