Alexis Pryor

HAAC Board of Governors,

Please accept this document as a formal nomination for Baker University junior Alexis Pryor for the HAAC Champions of Character Commissioner's Award. Alexis has made a significant impact in our athletic department, on our campus, and in the community of Baldwin City. She is the epitome of the involved student-athlete who represents herself and our university with enthusiasm and the utmost class.

Alexis is currently a member of the varsity volleyball and softball team. She was named the HAAC and Region V Volleyball Player of the week on September 17th, 2007 and was chosen as a member of the 2007 HAAC Volleyball 1st Team All-Conference. She was chosen as a HAAC Softball 1st Team All-Conference catcher in 2007 and was elected by her peers as a co-captain for this year's squad. She has also served with our Department of Sports Medicine as a student trainer for our athletic programs.

During her tenure as a dual sport athlete, Alexis was selected as the softball team representative to the Champions of Character Council on our campus. This group reaches out to the Baker student population and local youth to promote the five core values of the NAIA. In addition, Alexis has been a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) on campus. This is a faith-based group which also promotes ideals that run parallel to the Champions of Character program. She is a member of the Baker Ambassadors, which serves the Baker community by participating in worship services, organizing community service projects, and visiting ten churches per semester to serve as a role model for college-bound youth. Alexis was also inducted into the Cardinal Key Honor Society, our community service group on campus.

Alexis is a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority, and served for her house on the Greek governance structure as a member of Pan-Hellenic. She has reached out to the Baker freshman by acting as a student leader for our First Year Experience Program. Our student leaders are chosen by a panel of university representatives after a thorough interview process. These positions are highly competitive and only the "best of the best" on our campus are chosen to guide our incoming freshman on their new journey. Alexis was also selected by university representatives to act as a Parmentor, which is our group of promising young leaders. This groups acts as hosts at university-sponsored events and networks with some of our most important donors and friends.

Alexis is also outstanding in the classroom. Through the spring of 2007, Alexis maintained a GPA of 3.8. She has been a member of the Dean's list throughout her tenure as a Baker student and was chosen as the 2007 Major of the Year in the Baker University Department of Health, Sport, and Human Performance. She was entered into a state-wide competition among other health majors, and won as the Major of the Year for Kansas Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (KAHPHERD). This is a truly exclusive and exceptional honor.

Alexis plans to graduate from Baker University in the spring of 2009 with an Exercise Science major and attend physical therapy school at Wichita State University or the University of Kansas to earn a doctoral degree. Her ultimate goal is to become a pediatric physical therapist and reside near her family in Kansas.

The Baker University Athletic Department is very proud to have a student of Alexis Pryor's caliber – academically, athletically, and personally – at our institution. She is a student-athlete who conducts her life with character and accepts the responsibility of leadership seriously. She has truly made her mark at Baker and we look forward to following what is sure to be a very successful career.
